Danse Bharatanatyam and Carnatic Rhythms

Sonali and Bala Skandan present an evening of South Indian Carnatic Rhythms and selected works in Bharatanatyam. Rasa, (mood) and Laya, (rhythm) combine in a joyful expression of music and dance. Bala Skandan will presenta demonstration of rhythms on Carnatic music on the Kanjira, a frame drum from South India, as well as konnakol, or verbal percussion. Sonali presents selected pieces from her classical repertoire along with excerpts from her latest work, The Four Horsemen – a critically acclaimed work that uses the metaphor of the apocalyptic tale of the four horsemen to tell the very human stories of female protagonists who exemplify resilience, courage strength and hope. She also will present some re-imagined classical pieces.
